Round Peg,Square World (1994-1999) Although many people remain computer illiterate, our daily lives are not. We're logged in; digital data moves here and there scanning product code bars recording our purchases on plastic money. In 1976, I studied computer programming beginning with huge main frame computers and punched code for ten years . These paintings are both counterpoint and celebration of Year 2000, the Laptop and Life in the Fast Lane. They are made using the ages old process of hand painting strips of soft canvas with layer upon layer of colour stain, joined like a calendar to mark the days. The crayon drawn images capture larger than life meaning of sometime comic everyday events.
These abstract paintings of nature and human generation are contemplative views because they are not information nor absolutely knowable. As with all methods of communication some things appear true to the moment, other truths appear with the passage of time. Time (or our perceived lack of it) seems to make us run quickly completing each task like the original PacMan at the speed of light accompanied by electro-mood music. Internet information has us on decision overload as we manage a new addiction called email - please feel free to email your comments!
